Study Finds No Clear Cognitive Benefits from Omega-3 Supplements

A new study from the University of Southern California found that fish oil supplements rich in omega-3 did not significantly improve memory or cognitive function, nor did they prevent age-related brain shrinkage.

The two-year clinical trial involved 365 adults aged 55–80 who received either 2,000 mg of DHA daily or a placebo. Researchers found no significant cognitive benefits among those taking the supplement.

The findings do not rule out the benefits of eating fish as part of a balanced diet, but they suggest that omega-3 supplements alone may not protect against Alzheimer’s disease.
