Steven Fagin Returns to Baghdad to Lead U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Iraq
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad announced on Wednesday that diplomat Steven Fagin has returned to Iraq to serve as Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. diplomatic mission, succeeding Joshua Harris, who has completed his tenure in Baghdad.
Fagin brings extensive diplomatic experience in Iraq and the wider region. He previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Yemen and held senior positions in Baghdad, including Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission. He also served as U.S. Consul General in Erbil.
The embassy said Fagin’s previous experience in Iraq and the region would help further strengthen relations between Baghdad and Washington and advance bilateral cooperation.
In a farewell message issued this week, Harris reaffirmed that the United States would continue supporting Iraq’s sovereignty, counterterrorism efforts, security cooperation, and stronger economic and trade ties between the two countries.
