Iraqi Court Sentences Six French Nationals to Life in Prison for ISIS Membership
The Al-Karkh Criminal Court has sentenced six French nationals to life imprisonment and handed a seventh defendant a 15-year prison term for membership in the terrorist organization ISIS. The verdicts were issued in the presence of their defense lawyers and representatives of the French Embassy in Iraq.
According to a statement from Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, the defendants are classified as highly dangerous due to their alleged roles in threatening Iraqi national security, undermining stability in Iraq and Syria, and inciting terrorist attacks in other countries.
The statement added that the seven defendants were part of a group of 47 French nationals transferred to Iraqi authorities from northeastern Syria last year. The First Al-Karkh Investigation Court conducted the investigations before referring their cases to the competent court in accordance with established legal procedures.
