Iraq’s Interior Ministry Arrests Three International Drug Trafficking Suspects and Seizes 30 Kilograms of Narcotics
Iraq’s Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday the arrest of three foreign nationals suspected of international drug trafficking and the seizure of 30 kilograms of narcotics in the country’s territorial waters, following a two-day surveillance and monitoring operation.
According to the ministry, the operation involved intelligence units and the Special Investigations Department of the General Directorate for Drug Affairs, in cooperation with the Naval Command and Naval Intelligence Directorate. The operation resulted in an armed confrontation at sea, during which one of the suspects was injured.
The ministry stated that the suspects attempted to conceal evidence by throwing the narcotics into the water. However, security forces successfully located and recovered the drugs. It reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing drug trafficking networks across all routes, including maritime channels exploited by smugglers.
