Iraq Wins Arab Award for Joint Drug Enforcement Cooperation for Second Consecutive Year

Iraq has secured first place for the second consecutive year in a competition recognizing outstanding joint field, intelligence and operational cooperation in combating narcotics, the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances at the Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday.

In a statement, the directorate said the competition is organized by the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, noting that the achievement highlights Iraq’s growing role in combating drug trafficking and strengthening security cooperation and intelligence sharing.

The directorate added that the award reflects improvements in intelligence exchange, operational coordination and the implementation of specialized joint security missions targeting drug trafficking and smuggling networks.

It also attributed the achievement to the directorate’s continued intelligence and field efforts, alongside cooperation and coordination with counterpart agencies at both Arab and international levels.

The directorate stressed that the result demonstrates the ability of Iraqi security agencies to achieve significant progress through joint intelligence and operational efforts to combat narcotics.
