Iraq Returns 19 Tons of Brazilian Frozen Chicken to Jordan Over Import Violations
Iraq’s Veterinary Department at the Ministry of Agriculture announced the return of a shipment of Brazilian-origin frozen chicken cuts to the Jordanian side after it was found to have exceeded half of its production period, in violation of Iraqi standard specifications and import regulations.
In a statement, Director General of the Veterinary Department Omar Raad Al-Hayali said veterinary staff at the quarantine facility at the Trebil border crossing decided to return the 19-ton shipment of frozen chicken cuts in accordance with Article 68 of the amended Customs Law No. 23 of 1984, which is currently in force.
Al-Hayali explained that Iraqi standards prohibit the import of products that have exceeded half of their production or validity period, making the shipment non-compliant with the applicable import requirements.
He added that the decision was made by a committee comprising representatives from the Trebil border crossing administration, the veterinary quarantine facility, the Trebil customs center, health inspection authorities, and border crossing police. The committee agreed to return the shipment to the Jordanian side due to its violation of import conditions.
