Interior Minister Directs Promotions for Eligible Officers Without Requiring Specific Positions

Iraqi Interior Minister Yasser Abdul-Maliki has directed the promotion of officers from the rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel, and from colonel to brigadier general, once they have completed the legally required service periods, without requiring them to hold a specific position.

The minister expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister, who also serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, for supporting the initiative aimed at ensuring fairness and safeguarding officers’ legal entitlements.

He stressed that granting officers their due promotions on time helps uphold fairness, strengthen professionalism, and maintain career stability within the security institution. The measure is also intended to reduce reliance on personal connections or mediation to secure professional entitlements.
