Former MP Hadi Al-Salami Appointed Adviser to Iraq’s Prime Minister on Border Crossings, Customs and Transport

An informed source said on Wednesday that former lawmaker Hadi Al-Salami has been appointed as an adviser to Iraq’s prime minister for border crossings, customs and transport affairs.

The source noted that the Prime Minister’s Office has not yet clarified the specific duties and authorities assigned to Al-Salami under the appointment.

The development comes amid reports that political forces are considering reactivating the two positions of vice president as part of the State Administration Coalition’s understandings for the next phase. According to the source, the positions would receive nominal salaries only, without office allowances or the creation of new job grades, following a proposed arrangement similar to that for deputy prime ministers.

Last Thursday, Iraq’s Council of Representatives voted to appoint three deputies to Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and approved 11 ministerial portfolios, including vacant and newly established ministries, with the Ministry of Migration and Displacement excluded.
