Iraqi PM Ali al-Zaidi to Visit Lebanon and Syria Next Week for Talks on Shared Issues
An informed government source said Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi is scheduled to make official visits to Lebanon and Syria next week, leading a government delegation to discuss a range of key issues of mutual interest.
The source explained that Lebanon will be the first stop on the tour, followed by Syria, before al-Zaidi returns to Baghdad.
Last Wednesday, al-Zaidi visited Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, as part of an official Gulf tour that also includes Kuwait. The visit followed the cancellation of an earlier trip to Riyadh scheduled for July, amid rapidly escalating regional security developments, including a US strike on Popular Mobilization Forces facilities in Iraq, reportedly involving Saudi participation, according to the original text.
The diplomatic moves come amid continued caution and uncertainty in Iraq's relations with Gulf states since regional military operations began in February 2026. The region has witnessed repeated allegations that armed factions are using Iraqi territory to launch drone attacks targeting regional economic interests.
