Younis Mahmoud praises government support and Iraq’s performance against Kuwait

Iraqi Football Association President Younis Mahmoud expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Ali Al-Zeidi’s support and follow-up of the national team during its participation in the 27th Gulf Cup, describing the government’s backing as an important form of support for Iraqi football.

In a statement, the Football Association said Mahmoud valued the attention given to the national team, noting that the government’s support reflects its commitment to Iraqi sports and football.

Mahmoud also praised head coach Graham Arnold for giving young players the opportunity to feature in the match against Kuwait, describing the coach’s management of the game as impressive.

He said the players maintained their composure and focus despite Kuwait’s late comeback and return to the match, before Iraq managed to secure victory during the decisive moments.

The association president also thanked the Iraqi fans for their continued support and encouragement throughout the game, saying the match revived the competitive spirit and long-standing rivalry between Iraq and Kuwait, with both teams producing a high level of performance rarely seen in the Gulf Cup in recent years.
