White House Discusses Plans to End Ukraine War with Putin; Moscow Pledges to Secure Talks

The White House announced that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, discussing substantive plans to end the war in Ukraine, with a US official noting these plans relate to steps that will be announced in the coming weeks.

Conversely, President Putin stated that Moscow had not agreed with Ukraine on a broader three-day ceasefire, but noted that Russia paused strikes on Kyiv for three days starting September 5, followed by a significant reduction in Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. Putin added that he informed the US negotiators that Moscow would do its utmost to ensure the security of mediators and the negotiation process.
