UAE Leadership Condoles Kurdistan Region Leaders on the Passing of Abdul Wahid Barzani
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, alongside His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, dispatched cables of condolences on Sunday to the leaders of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq following the passing of Abdul Wahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdulsalam Barzani, the eldest figure and senior member of the Barzani family.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), official cables were sent to Masoud Barzani, Leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), and Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region. Additionally, cables of condolences were addressed by the UAE Vice Presidents to Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. The leaders expressed their sincere sympathies over the loss. Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani had officially announced the passing on Friday, September 4, mourning the loss of the family patriarch known for his piety, philanthropic deeds, and prominent stature within the community. The deceased was the grandson of Sheikh Abdulsalam Barzani, an influential early pioneer of the modern Kurdish national movement who advocated for social reform and Kurdish rights during the Ottoman era prior to his execution in 1914, and the elder brother of Sheikh Ahmed Barzani and Mullah Mustafa Barzani.
