Two suspects arrested in Baghdad over human organ trafficking
The Baghdad/Rusafa Police Command announced on Sunday the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in human organ trafficking, including a man who planned to sell one of his kidneys for 14 million Iraqi dinars.
In a statement, the command said the operation was carried out by the 10th Security Area commander and the Sadr First Criminal Investigation Department, in cooperation with intelligence personnel, following information that a man had been visiting a passport office to obtain a passport and travel abroad to sell his kidney.
A security team was subsequently formed to investigate the case. The first suspect was lured and arrested, followed by the arrest of a second suspect who allegedly acted as a broker in organ-selling operations.
According to the statement, the second suspect confessed during questioning to carrying out several kidney and human organ sales in cooperation with individuals outside Iraq, in exchange for money as well as travel bookings and hotel accommodations.
