Trump Rejects Iranian Proposal for Seven-Day Ceasefire, Signals Naval Blockade Will Remain

US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal for a seven-day ceasefire put forward by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.

According to the officials, Trump told his aides that he expects US strikes against Iran to resume after the November midterm elections. They added that the US president remains skeptical that Tehran will meet his demands.

Regarding the naval blockade imposed on Iran, the officials said Washington’s efforts to ensure the passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz have reduced the urgency of reaching an agreement. They also said the Trump administration had informed Iran and mediators that the president does not intend to lift the naval blockade on Iranian ports.
