Sulaimaniyah Court Postpones Lahur Sheikh Jangi Trial in Lalehzar Case

The Sulaimaniyah Criminal Court on Thursday postponed the trial of Lahur Sheikh Jangi, head of the People’s Front Party, his brother Polad, and 10 other defendants in connection with the Lalehzar events.

The hearing began at 9:00 a.m. and focused on charges brought under Article 56 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which concerns attempted murder.

Speaking at a press conference outside the courthouse, defense lawyer Dana Taqi al-Din said the legal proceedings inside the courtroom proceeded smoothly. He noted that judges once again heard statements from six defendants.

According to al-Din, the defendants maintained that their previous confessions had been obtained through coercion and torture. He added that the defense team would be informed of the date of the next hearing on Sunday, when official working hours resume.

Lahur Sheikh Jangi, meanwhile, told the court that he was fully prepared to appear before the judiciary and defend himself against all charges brought against him.
