Spain expresses readiness to expand cooperation with Iraq in environment, sustainability and smart cities

Spanish Ambassador to Iraq Alicia Rico Pérez del Pulgar expressed her country’s interest in expanding joint cooperation with Iraq, particularly in the fields of environmental protection, sustainability and smart city development.

Speaking at the official conference held Saturday evening in Baghdad to launch Iraq’s first smart automated waste collection system, the ambassador said the project, implemented in cooperation with URD, represents an important step toward modernizing waste management through cleaner, more efficient and sustainable solutions in line with the needs of modern and smart cities.

She stressed Spain’s strong commitment to exchanging knowledge, expertise and technology, describing the project as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Iraq and Spain and pave the way for further joint projects in environmental protection, sustainability and smart cities.

The ambassador also called on institutions, companies and relevant stakeholders in both countries to continue their joint efforts and turn the initiative into the starting point for a broader partnership and practical projects that could contribute to sustainable development and a better future.
