S. Treasury Sanctions 10 Individuals and Entities Over Iran Military Procurement

The U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday imposed sanctions on 10 individuals and entities based in China, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Iran, accusing them of assisting Iran’s Defense Ministry in procuring weapons and military components.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would continue targeting entities that support Iran, stressing that the measures are intended to restrict Tehran’s ability to rebuild its weapons programs and increase the costs for those involved in its procurement networks.

Those sanctioned include an Iranian Defense Ministry representative based in Beijing, as well as companies and suppliers accused of providing weapons systems and dual-use electronic components. A senior figure at a privately owned Pakistani defense company was also targeted.

Brett Erickson of Obsidian Risk Advisors said the latest sanctions were unlikely to significantly affect Iran’s ability to launch missiles and drones, describing the move as largely symbolic.
