Rybakina Reaches World No. 1 as Djokovic Falls to 12th in Latest Rankings

Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has risen to the top of the WTA world rankings in the latest update released on Monday, following her US Open triumph and becoming the first player from Kazakhstan to reach the No. 1 position.

Rybakina ended Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka’s 99-week reign at the top after defeating her in the US Open final and denying her the chance to claim a third consecutive title in New York.

Sabalenka dropped to second, while American Jessica Pegula moved into third place, followed by compatriot Coco Gauff in fourth. Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Czech Linda Noskova retained fifth and sixth, while Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina climbed to seventh.

Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk also broke into the top 10 for the first time in her career, rising to 10th after reaching the US Open fourth round. China’s Zheng Qinwen recorded the biggest jump, moving up 69 places to 52nd after reaching the quarter-finals in New York.

In the men’s rankings, Germany’s Alexander Zverev closed the gap on world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who missed the US Open through injury. Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz remained third despite his quarter-final exit.

American Ben Shelton climbed five places to fourth, the highest ranking of his career, after reaching his first Grand Slam final. Russia’s Daniil Medvedev moved up to sixth, while American Frances Tiafoe jumped four places to eighth after reaching the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic suffered a seven-place drop to 12th following his first-round exit, marking the first time in more than eight years that the Serbian has fallen outside the world’s top 10.
