A protest by top graduates and holders of advanced academic degrees in Baghdad escalated into clashes with riot police as demonstrators called for greater attention to their employment demands. Footage circulating from the protest showed several participants being subjected to physical confrontations during the demonstration.

The protesters called on the government and relevant authorities to take serious steps to address their situation and provide employment opportunities and government positions that match their academic qualifications, particularly for holders of master’s and doctoral degrees.
