Pezeshkian: Hormuz Reopening Plan Coordinated With Khamenei

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran’s latest proposal to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz was coordinated with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, stressing that the plan could be implemented if the United States accepts the proposal and fulfills its commitments.

In an interview with CBS, Pezeshkian said Iran would also honor its commitments once Washington agrees to the proposed framework, linking the plan to the resumption of negotiations and the reopening of the vital waterway.

The Iranian president also revealed the formation of a six-member team representing several institutions, including government bodies, parliament and security forces. He said the group meets to discuss outstanding issues, coordinate positions and has the authority to make decisions.

Regarding Mojtaba Khamenei, Pezeshkian said he had met the supreme leader twice, with one meeting lasting more than seven hours. He described Khamenei as being in good health and said injuries to his face and legs had healed, while attributing his continued absence from public view to security concerns.

Khamenei has remained out of the public spotlight since becoming Iran’s supreme leader in March, fueling questions over his health and his role in overseeing the country’s political and security affairs. Earlier reports said he had been seriously injured during the strike that killed his father before he assumed the leadership position.

Tehran had previously proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days while restarting negotiations with Washington, under conditions involving an easing of military pressure and restrictions on Iranian ports.
