Nechirvan Barzani Welcomes Opening of Kurdish Section at Peking University

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday welcomed China’s decision to establish a Kurdish-language section at Peking University, expressing his support for expanding cooperation and strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and China.

Barzani made the remarks during a farewell meeting with Liu Jun, China’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, who is concluding his diplomatic assignment. He praised Liu’s efforts to develop relations between China and the Kurdistan Region across various fields and wished him success in his next position.

Liu, for his part, expressed his appreciation to the Kurdistan Region Presidency and relevant authorities for the support and cooperation he received during his tenure, reaffirming Beijing’s interest in further developing bilateral relations.

The meeting also focused on opportunities to broaden cooperation between the two sides. During the discussion, Barzani thanked China for opening the Kurdish section at Peking University, highlighting the move as an additional avenue for strengthening educational and cultural ties.
