Military Intelligence Foils Attempt to Smuggle Nearly 250,000 Narcotic Pills in Western Desert
The Military Intelligence Directorate announced on Tuesday that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle nearly a quarter of a million narcotic pills in Iraq’s western desert.
In a statement, the directorate said that units from the Intelligence and Security Department of the 5th Infantry Division, under the supervision of Military Intelligence Director Lieutenant General Hassan Jawad Al-Silawi, successfully intercepted the smuggling operation and seized approximately 250,000 narcotic pills.
The drugs were reportedly prepared for smuggling using a hot-air balloon equipped with a tracking device.
The directorate added that the Criminal Evidence Investigations Unit is continuing legal procedures and preparing official reports before referring the case to the relevant authorities in accordance with applicable laws.
