Macron, Zaidi to Discuss Strengthening Iraq-France Partnership During Paris Visit

The French Presidency, the Élysée Palace, said on Saturday that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi will visit Paris on Sunday in his first trip to Europe, with talks aimed at strengthening the partnership between Iraq and France.

The presidency said discussions between Zaidi and French President Emmanuel Macron will focus on key areas of cooperation, including energy, transport, infrastructure, water and healthcare, as well as expanding security and defense ties. Several agreements are also expected to be signed, although their details have not yet been disclosed.

The two leaders are also expected to address the anticipated changes to the international coalition’s mission against ISIS, reaffirming their commitment to continued counterterrorism efforts and preventing the group from regaining operational capacity while fully respecting the sovereignty of both countries.

Their talks will further examine the impact of regional instability on trade flows and energy supplies, particularly Iraqi oil exports. The two sides will explore ways to resume those exports to help ease pressure on energy markets, support Iraq’s economy and contribute to protecting French consumers’ purchasing power.
