Iraq’s Oil Ministry Pushes to Accelerate Associated Gas Investment Project in Maysan
Iraq’s Deputy Oil Minister for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail, has stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of a project to capture and invest associated gas from the Bazergan, Fakka and Abu Gharb oil fields in Maysan Governorate. The project is designed to process 70 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to support the national electricity network.
According to a ministry statement, Ismail chaired a meeting to review the project’s implementation requirements and address technical and operational obstacles, particularly those related to the Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU). He emphasized the importance of completing the project within the established timeframe and at the lowest possible cost.
Ismail instructed the relevant entities, including Maysan Oil Company, the Oil Pipelines Company, Maysan Energy Company and the field operator, to strengthen coordination and make effective use of available equipment and facilities to expedite completion and ensure the targeted gas volumes are captured.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting joint efforts and removing obstacles facing associated gas investment projects. These efforts aim to reduce gas flaring, maximize the use of national resources and strengthen fuel supplies for electricity generation.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of Maysan Oil Company, alongside officials from the relevant companies and departments at the ministry’s headquarters.
