Iraq’s Oil Ministry: Artawi gas project reaches 96% completion

Iraq’s Ministry of Oil announced that the accelerated gas investment project at the Artawi field, known as AG25, in Basra Governorate has reached 96% completion, paving the way for the facility to begin commercial operations in the near term.

The project is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to capture associated gas produced during oil operations, reduce gas flaring and supply dry gas directly to the national grid to support domestic power generation and meet local electricity demand.

At the same time, the ministry is stepping up exploration and development activities across oil and gas blocks awarded during the fifth-plus and sixth licensing rounds. The ministry’s executive leadership reaffirmed long-term plans to gradually expand crude production capacity beyond 10 million barrels per day through intensified seismic surveys, exploratory drilling and integrated field development programs.
