Iraq’s Judiciary Records 183 Human Trafficking Cases and 307 Residency Violations in August

Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council recorded 183 cases related to human trafficking crimes during August, according to statistics released by the country’s appellate courts.

The Basra Court of Appeal recorded the highest number, with 67 cases, followed by the Baghdad/Karkh Court of Appeal with 40 cases and Diyala Court of Appeal with 12. No human trafficking cases were registered by the appellate courts in Nineveh, Babil, Dhi Qar, or Muthanna.

Regarding violations of Foreigners’ Residency Law No. 76 of 2017, the courts recorded 307 cases. Baghdad/Rusafa ranked first with 204 cases, followed by Baghdad/Karkh with 35 and Wasit with 26. Meanwhile, no related cases were recorded in Basra, Nineveh, Babil, Dhi Qar, Anbar, Maysan, Muthanna, or Karbala.

The judiciary’s statistics also showed 10 suicide cases during the same period. Nineveh recorded the highest number with five cases, followed by Diyala with two, while Rusafa, Najaf, and Qadisiyah each recorded one case.
