Iraq’s Electricity Ministry Seeks Permanent Positions for 6,836 Meter Readers

Electricity Minister Ali Saadi Waheeb has asked the Finance Ministry to include a provision in the 2027 federal budget law to permanently appoint 6,836 electricity meter readers.

The Electricity Ministry said distribution companies had confirmed their operational need for the workers and the availability of financial allocations to support their employment.

The positions are distributed among the country’s electricity distribution companies, with 1,805 in the North, 1,423 in Baghdad, 1,445 in the Central region, 1,364 in the Middle Euphrates, and 799 in the South.

Waheeb said the meter readers have gained substantial experience in their field and that their permanent appointment would not impose additional financial burdens on the state treasury.
