Iraq’s Agriculture Ministry Introduces New Measures to Support Poultry Sector and Facilitate Feed Import
on Wednesday that it is developing plans to revitalize the poultry sector and resume operations at suspended projects, while introducing a new mechanism to transport animal feed through land border crossings amid challenges linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Ministry spokesperson Qusay al-Khattab said feed supplies remain one of the main obstacles facing poultry producers. He explained that, under the minister’s directives, the ministry is seeking the necessary approvals to bring feed into the country through land crossings, while also working to develop domestic feed factories and facilitate feed supplies.
Al-Khattab added that the ministry has streamlined procedures for renewing licenses for poultry projects of all sizes. Previously, operators were required to obtain approvals from 11 different entities, but the process has now been reduced to just two, following coordination with the minister and the technical deputy minister.
He noted that the ministry’s plans also focus on restarting licensed but inactive poultry projects and providing facilities and support for the private sector through the Department of Animal Resources and the Veterinary Department, with the aim of strengthening domestic production and advancing the poultry industry.
