Iraq’s Acting Culture Minister: Grants for Journalists, Artists and Writers Have Not Been Cancelled
Iraq’s Acting Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Sarwa Abdul Wahed, confirmed that grants allocated to journalists, artists, writers and intellectuals have not been cancelled, stressing that the ministry is working to secure the necessary funding to disburse them.
In a press statement, Abdul Wahed said current financial difficulties and limited liquidity, compounded by regional and domestic developments, had created challenges for government spending. She noted, however, that the ministry was continuing its contacts with the relevant authorities to secure the required allocations and release the grants as soon as possible.
She stressed that the ministry would continue supporting Iraq’s cultural and media communities, describing assistance to journalists, artists and intellectuals as a national responsibility and reaffirming efforts to safeguard their rights amid the current economic pressures
