Iraqi President Emphasizes Support for Individual Sports and Talented Athletes
President Nizar Amedi on Monday stressed the importance of promoting individual sports and providing greater support and care for talented athletes to help them develop their abilities and represent Iraq in international competitions.
According to a statement from the Presidency, Amedi received Iraqi Paralympic champion Najla Imad and praised her achievements on the international sporting stage, highlighting her remarkable story of determination and perseverance.
The president noted that Imad lost three limbs in a terrorist bombing in 2008, but did not allow the tragedy to bring her life to a standstill. Instead, she turned her suffering into a source of strength and achievement, becoming an athlete who has raised Iraq’s flag at major international sporting events.
Amedi said Imad’s achievements go beyond the medals she has won, describing them as a message of hope and determination and an example of the ability of Iraqis to overcome difficult circumstances and turn challenges into success.
He also commended Iraqi athletes, particularly Paralympic champions, stressing the need to provide them with training facilities, care and the necessary support. He said investing in sport is ultimately an investment in people and the potential of Iraqi youth.
Imad, for her part, expressed her gratitude to the president for his attention to and support for Iraqi athletes, reaffirming her determination to continue achieving success and raising Iraq’s profile in international competitions.
