Iraqi PM Al-Zaidi to Begin Gulf Tour with Visits to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi is expected to begin a Gulf tour next Wednesday, with visits to Saudi Arabia followed by Kuwait, to discuss bilateral cooperation and the latest security and economic developments across the region.

A well-informed government source said the talks would focus on shared security and economic concerns, the impact of regional developments on stability, and ways to strengthen coordination between Iraq and Gulf countries across various sectors.

According to the source, Al-Zaidi will reaffirm Baghdad’s rejection of any attacks launched from Iraqi territory against Gulf states or other countries in the region. He is also expected to stress that his government will hold accountable any parties involved in cross-border attacks.

The planned tour comes after a visit to Riyadh scheduled for July was cancelled amid rapidly escalating regional security developments.

Iraq’s relations with Gulf states have remained cautious since regional military operations began in February 2026, amid repeated accusations by countries in the region that armed factions have used Iraqi territory to launch drone attacks targeting regional economic interests.
