Iraqi Interior Ministry Arrests Wanted Suspects and Seizes Unlicensed Weapons in Baghdad

Iraq’s Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that an anticipatory security operation in Al-Nuairiya, on the Rusafa side of Baghdad, resulted in the arrest of several wanted individuals and violators, along with the seizure of unlicensed weapons.

Ministry spokesperson Colonel Mohammed Ali Al-Hassoun said the operation was carried out by the Baghdad Rusafa Police Command with the participation of security, intelligence and supporting units, as part of efforts to pursue wanted suspects and enforce the law.

He said the campaign led to the arrest of suspects wanted under Articles 28, related to narcotics, and 456 of the Penal Code, as well as eight individuals who violated residency requirements. Authorities also shut down a liquor-selling warehouse found to be operating in violation of regulations.

Four people were additionally arrested for possessing unlicensed weapons, while two Kalashnikov rifles and two pistols were seized.

The ministry said those arrested were placed in custody pending the completion of the necessary legal procedures.
