Iraqi Intelligence Forces Arrest Murder Suspect on the Run Since 2023 in Basra

The Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency announced on Wednesday the arrest of a murder suspect who had been wanted and on the run since 2023, following a swift intelligence operation in Basra Governorate.

In a statement, the agency said its Falcons Intelligence Cell carried out a rapid security operation that led to the arrest of the suspect, who was wanted under Article 406 of the Penal Code for allegedly committing several murders in Basra in previous years.

The agency said the suspect had attempted to evade law enforcement by adopting various concealment methods. However, intelligence and technical efforts enabled security personnel to identify his whereabouts, track him down and arrest him without giving him an opportunity to escape or evade capture.

The suspect was subsequently handed over to the relevant investigative authorities to face the appropriate legal proceedings.
