Iraqi Government Warns of Economic Pressures Amid Regional Tensions
Iraqi government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi has warned that regional tensions are placing additional pressure on the country’s economy, particularly trade and oil exports, describing the current circumstances as resembling a wartime economy.
Al-Aboudi estimated that previous exchange-rate decisions resulted in losses approaching IQD 36 trillion between 2023 and 2026. He also highlighted challenges facing Iraqi oil exports amid regional instability and risks to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The financial-loss figure represents the spokesperson’s assessment.
