Iraq Records $10.8 Billion Trade Surplus in First Quarter of 2026
Preliminary data from the Central Bank of Iraq showed that the country’s exports reached $19.55 billion during the first quarter of 2026, compared with $10.27 billion in imports, including shipping and insurance costs.
According to balance of payments data, crude oil accounted for the bulk of exports at $18.64 billion, while petroleum product exports stood at around $762.2 million, with other exports totaling $148.5 million.
Imports were divided between the government sector, which accounted for $1.35 billion, and the private sector, with imports of approximately $8.92 billion.
The trade balance recorded a surplus of $10.82 billion, based on the Central Bank’s calculation using imports of $8.73 billion after excluding shipping and insurance costs.
Meanwhile, the services account posted a deficit of $3.39 billion, with payments reaching $4.95 billion, compared with receipts of $1.56 billion.
The data also showed that Iraq recorded a current account surplus of $7.98 billion during the first quarter of 2026.
