Iraq Receives New Cash Dollar Shipment Under Understanding with Washington
The Iraqi government announced on Thursday the arrival of a new shipment of US dollar banknotes, as part of ongoing understandings with the United States aimed at ensuring the continued flow of foreign currency.
Government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi said that a new cash dollar shipment arrived in Iraq on Wednesday, noting that the move is intended to ensure the availability of foreign currency and meet market needs in line with approved policies.
Al-Aboudi said the understandings reached with the US side include the continued delivery of cash dollar shipments to Iraq to help meet legitimate foreign-currency requirements.
He added that the arrangements come amid Iraq’s progress in strengthening oversight of dollar distribution, regulating its use and curbing the misuse of foreign currency, alongside expanding electronic payment methods and advancing the country’s gradual transition toward a digital economy.
