Iraq Reaches Understanding with US to Maintain Cash Dollar Shipments

Iraqi government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi announced on Saturday that Baghdad had reached an understanding with the United States to maintain the flow of cash dollar shipments to Iraq, with a new shipment expected to arrive in the coming days.

Al-Aboudi said the arrangement was reached as part of Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi’s visit to the United States, noting that the continued shipments would help meet Iraq’s legitimate foreign-currency needs.

He explained that the understanding follows progress made by Iraq in strengthening oversight of dollar distribution, regulating its use, and curbing the misuse of foreign currency.

The spokesperson added that Iraq is also expanding electronic payment systems as part of its gradual transition toward a digital economy.
