Iraq prepares to resume Gulf maritime services after more than 50 years

Iraq is preparing to revive regular commercial maritime operations in the Gulf after a hiatus of more than five decades. The first scheduled voyage is expected to depart from the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port for Iraq’s Umm Qasr Port on October 15.

The move is part of efforts to rebuild Iraq’s national shipping sector, expand cargo flows through federal ports and strengthen the country’s role in regional trade networks.
