Iraq Prepares to Launch First Commercial Sea Voyage from Jebel Ali to Basra After Decades-Long Hiatus

Iraq’s General Company for Maritime Transport, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, has announced that preparations are nearing completion for the launch of the national maritime carrier’s first commercial voyage from the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port to Basra Governorate. The move aims to revive the Iraqi maritime route, known as the Iraq Line, after decades of suspension.

The company stated that preparations are underway to resume commercial shipping services across the Arabian Gulf, with the initiative expected to boost maritime transport and trade, offer competitive freight rates, streamline procedures, and improve safety standards.

It also called on traders and importers interested in transporting their goods through the national carrier to make reservations promptly through the company’s official contact numbers and authorized website.

The initiative forms part of the Ministry of Transport’s broader efforts to reactivate Iraq’s maritime routes and strengthen the role of Iraqi ports in cargo transportation and international trade.
