Iraq Completes Preparations to Host OIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Baghdad

Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that it had completed most of the key requirements for hosting the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), scheduled to take place in Baghdad on October 17–18, 2026.

In a statement, the ministry said Deputy Foreign Minister for Multilateral and Legal Affairs, Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed, chaired a virtual meeting attended by several Iraqi officials and representatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, including the organization’s deputy secretary-general and the director of its Baghdad office.

The meeting focused on technical and logistical preparations for the upcoming session, as well as discussions on the proposed agenda and key themes to be included in the final statement.

Saeed confirmed that Iraq had completed most of the necessary preparations for the meeting, praising the OIC’s role in supporting the success of the event and strengthening Baghdad’s position as a platform for dialogue and consensus among Islamic countries.

OIC officials, meanwhile, commended the Iraqi Foreign Ministry’s efforts to finalize the required preparations, expressing appreciation for Iraq’s commitment to hosting a successful session that reflects its active role within the organization
