Iraq Announces New Police Leadership Appointments in Karbala and Wasit

Iraq witnessed new changes in senior security positions on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with Major General Ahmed Abdul-Zahra Al-Aboudi appointed as the head of Karbala Police Command and Major General Mohammed Huwaidi named the new police chief of Wasit Province.

The appointments were made under orders issued by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Al-Aboudi, who previously led Wasit Police Command, succeeds Major General Ahmed Al-Zuwaini in Karbala, while Huwaidi assumes leadership of Wasit Police Command.

The changes are part of efforts to redistribute leadership responsibilities within Iraq’s security institutions in line with operational and administrative requirements across the provinces.
