Iraq and Türkiye Launch Talks on Framework Agreement for Oil, Gas and Energy Cooperation

Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi on Friday led an expanded Iraqi delegation at a meeting in Ankara to launch negotiations on a framework agreement with Türkiye covering cooperation in the oil, gas and energy sectors.

The Turkish side was headed by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar. The meeting reviewed a proposed roadmap to strengthen bilateral cooperation in developing oil and gas infrastructure, the petrochemical industry, and oil, gas and energy trade.

The two sides also discussed mechanisms for improving joint coordination and operational frameworks in a way that supports the mutual interests of Iraq and Türkiye. According to the Iraqi Oil Ministry, the inaugural meeting is intended to establish the foundations of the framework agreement and expand partnership opportunities across the oil, gas and energy sectors.

The Iraqi delegation included Deputy Oil Minister for Extraction Affairs Naseer Aziz Jabbar, as well as the directors general of the Oil Marketing Company, North Oil Company, Oil Projects Company and Oil Pipelines Company, along with senior officials from the economic, legal, contracts and petroleum licensing departments.
