Iraq and Egypt Discuss Enhancing Security and Military Cooperation

Iraqi Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Qahtan Taha Khalaf met on Tuesday with Iraqi Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Lieutenant General Saad Harbia, to discuss ways to strengthen security and military cooperation and expand coordination between Baghdad and Cairo.

According to a statement, Khalaf received Harbia and his accompanying delegation, with the two sides discussing mechanisms for expanding cooperation between the Iraqi and Egyptian military institutions, as well as exchanging expertise and experiences and benefiting from the available capabilities of both sides.

The statement added that the discussions also covered preparations related to the completion of the withdrawal of the international coalition forces from Iraq, scheduled for September 30, and the requirements of the next phase. The sides stressed the importance of strengthening Iraq’s national capabilities and maintaining security and military coordination with brotherly and friendly countries.

They also emphasized the need to maintain communication between Iraq and Egypt and further develop joint cooperation in a way that supports the two countries’ shared security and military interests.
