Iraq and Canada discuss bilateral ties and diplomatic efforts to contain conflicts

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held talks with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on strengthening bilateral relations, as well as international developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at containing ongoing conflicts.

In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said Hussein met Anand on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two sides discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between Iraq and Canada in ways that serve the mutual interests of both countries.

The meeting also addressed major challenges facing the international community, particularly the security and economic repercussions of ongoing conflicts and their impact on regional and international stability. The ministers further reviewed regional and international efforts to contain conflicts and limit their consequences.

Both sides stressed the importance of supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at reaching peaceful solutions and translating international efforts into practical measures that can help de-escalate tensions and strengthen security and stability.
