Iraq Allows Stranded Travelers to Cross Through Shalamcheh and Al-Shib Border Gates

Iraq’s Security Media Cell announced on Saturday that stranded travelers at the Shalamcheh and Al-Shib border crossings would be allowed to enter and leave, in a move aimed at resolving the situation of Iraqi families stuck at the border.

Security Media Cell chief Lieutenant General Saad Maan said in a statement that the decision was issued under the direction of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, covering travelers stranded on both sides of the two crossings.

The decision follows appeals from Iraqi families who called for the reopening of the crossings after being stranded on the Iranian side in difficult conditions and high temperatures, with some patients reportedly among those waiting.

One traveler stranded at Al-Shib said the crossing had been closed on the Iraqi side, leaving several families stuck at the site, while those stranded at Shalamcheh urged the government to accelerate their return to Iraq.
