Iranian Toman Drops Below 230,000 Mark Against U.S. Dollar Amid Escalating Regional Tensions

The Iranian currency extended its slide against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday, breaching the threshold of 230,000 Tomans in the unofficial market amid heightened volatility triggered by regional military escalation. Foreign exchange data showed the dollar selling rate peaking near 233,000 Tomans before leveling at around 232,200 Tomans—a daily gain of 1.44% for the dollar and a cumulative loss of over 5% for the Toman over the past week. The sharp depreciation coincides with escalating military confrontations affecting oil tankers, key infrastructure, and strategic shipping lanes near the Strait of Hormuz.
