Iran Rules Out New Talks with Washington Despite Araghchi’s Readiness for Negotiations

Iran said Monday that its delegation in New York does not plan to enter into a new round of negotiations with the United States, hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was prepared to negotiate with Washington.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency quoted a source close to the Iranian delegation in New York as saying that the team had no plans to hold negotiations with US officials.

Earlier, an Iranian official said the Iranian delegation in New York had held indirect contacts with American officials and conveyed a proposal to US President Donald Trump involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to the war. Trump later rejected the proposal, according to the official.

The developments come amid differing statements from Iranian officials over the prospects for negotiations with Washington, as diplomatic efforts continue to address the escalating regional situation.
