Integrity Commission: Iraqi MP Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison Over Illicit Enrichment

The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Wednesday that MP Bahaa Al-Din Noor Mohammed Hussein has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of illicit enrichment.

The commission said the Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption issued the ruling under Article 19/Second of the amended Integrity Commission and Illicit Gain Law No. 30 of 2011.

The court also ordered Hussein to repay the illicit gains, amounting to IQD 5.887 billion and USD 10.99 million, in addition to imposing a fine equal to the value of the illicit gains.

A separate three-year hard-labor prison sentence was also issued over concealing information in his financial disclosure form. The court decided to enforce the harsher penalty and upheld the seizure of his movable and immovable assets.
