Gold and Dollar Exchange Rates Hold Steady in Baghdad and Erbil
Gold prices remained stable across local markets in Baghdad and Erbil on Saturday morning, mirroring a steady USD exchange rate at the opening of trade.
According to Shafaq News, the wholesale selling price for a 21-karat mithqal of imported gold (Gulf, Turkish, and European) in Baghdad’s Al-Nahr Street stood at 970,000 IQD, while local Iraqi gold sold at 940,000 IQD—matching Thursday’s closing rates. At retail jewelry stores, imported gold ranged between 970,000 and 980,000 IQD, while local gold traded between 940,000 and 950,000 IQD per mithqal.
In Erbil, 21-karat gold held at 960,000 IQD, while 22-karat reached 1,004,000 IQD, and 18-karat sold for 822,000 IQD.
This stability coincides with steady foreign exchange rates, with Al-Kifah and Al-Harithiya central exchanges in Baghdad quoting 154,650 IQD per $100. Notably, 21-karat gold surpassed the historic 1-million-dinar mark per mithqal last January, driven by global bullion trends and parallel exchange market dynamics.
