Four Relatives Arrested After Young Man Found with Gunshot Wound in Baghdad
Iraqi security forces arrested the father, brother and two other relatives of a young man who was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside a room on agricultural land in Al-Wahda subdistrict, southeast of Baghdad, on Friday. The arrests followed suspicions that the crime scene had been tampered with to make the incident appear to be a murder rather than a suicide.
A security source said Nahrawan Police Department received a report concerning a suspected suicide in the Al-Wahda neighborhood, in Al-Shakhkhat village (Shakha 7), opposite the Chinese company. The remote location is approximately five kilometers from the young man's family residence.
According to the source, a security team arrived at the scene and found the young man with a gunshot wound to the head inside a room on the agricultural property. His father, brother, uncle and cousin were subsequently arrested after investigators identified circumstances that required further examination.
The source added that the detainees stated during questioning that the young man had shot himself using a pistol belonging to his father after recording a video of himself. They also reportedly admitted removing the pistol from his hand and tampering with the scene in an attempt to mislead others and security personnel into believing he had been murdered.
The detainees' statements were formally recorded, and the firearm used in the incident was seized. The four suspects were placed in custody at the Nahrawan Criminal Investigation Department as legal procedures and investigations continue.
